Summer Throwback~ Rosie's Bubble Art~ And More!

 

Rosie had an idea to do some bubble art- something she saw on one of her favorite shows- probably Ryan's World or Peppa Pig :)

Luckily, it was a beautiful day and we had all the supplies already~ so we headed outside to do our project.

Rosie knew what she wanted to do. She had me help her fill cups with a little paint, some soap, and she filled them with water and gave them a stir.

Then she put a straw in and blew bubbles!

Careful not to drink it!

(Rosie is four-and-a half, so she's good at not drinking paint) :)

Next, pour the bubbles out onto the paper and see what happens!

(I guess this is what they call Process Art?)

Spread out the papers, and now we have a rainbow of bubble art!

Add a little glitter to make it sparkly :)

(This was a good project to do outside)

We really enjoyed this project.

The Chickens are Laying!

 After a long wait, which felt like it might be forever, our chickens started laying!

First was Lemon, pictured with Rowan- she laid a tiny little egg! The eggs have been getting bigger every day! Now we have 3 chickens laying eggs- just waiting on the one more. It's been fun to have fresh omelettes for breakfast!

All the kids have helped out with the chickens, Rowan especially. He also built their coop, with a little of Papa's help, of course!

Here's Rosie in the coop playing with the chickens. They are really friendly and love the attention!

Springtime Again~ Chickens and Rubik's Cubes!

 

We recently got chickens for the first time! We are hoping to be collecting eggs within a few months :)

However, we realize the chickens are more "therapy pets" to us than anything else :) They really calm everyone down, and all the kids enjoy taking care of them. Chickens really make great pets!

When we first got them they were so tiny but within a couple days they grew out of their box! We got one Rhode Island Red, two Barred Rocks, and one California White. Their names are Ginger, Pepper, Licorice, and Lemon. Lemon is quite a character! Here is a pic of Rosie holding Lemon, who climbed right into her lap!

The boys (and Rosie too!) have recently gotten into Rubik's cubes and they are going cube crazy! I seriously never knew there were so many different kinds. They really enjoy these challenges every day and the cubes are both theraputic and inspiring to them- and math based- we use them as a big part of our schooling!

Basket Weaving With Rowan

 

Both Rowan and Fynn have been very curious about ancient times and primitive crafts lately ~ everything from the mid to early 1900's, back to medieval times, all the way back to what they call "BCers" times.

Rowan especially has always loved domestic arts such as weaving, so basket making was next on his list. He has already woven several wool rugs and tapestries!

Here is a wool rug he is working on now, with yarn he hand spun! I will write another post on his wool weavings sometime in the future, hopefully ;)

We used day lily and iris leaves for our baskets because we already had them in the yard, and they need to be cut down soon for winter anyway. Here is a pic of Rosie's basket of leaves after she pulled them all out and ripped them up. Her way of getting in on the fun :)

The first time Rowan made his basket, he pinned it together with thumbtacks. But then a little person came along and pulled it apart :( so he made it again using staples!

I thought to try making a basket like the one I made in fourth grade, from strips of palm fronds, when we were studying the California Indians. I haven't made any baskets since.

I also thought it would be fun to make a little bracelet!

We hope to take a wagon ride out to the "Gazelle Field" soon to get some cattails, willows, and grasses to make more fun baskets!

It's Already Fall?? Pumpkin Art!

 Fall just sort of hit us this year.

Bam! Where did summer go?

The boys wasted no time getting into pumpkin season because they LOVE pumpkins!

Out came the paint to capture the colorful pumpkins.

I loved the expressionism in Fynn's pumpkin sitting by a tree.

Rosie pretended to paint :)

And she really painted too! :0

Rowan used a circle stamp for the yellow leaves.

Rowan made one to sell and one to keep. This one is to sell! If you like it its $25.00.

Well, the boys are into cars now... Here's a photo of a primitive car Rowan is building in the backyard. Also a papermodel of a Delorean, by Fynn!

Rosie has been having fun helping make and play with play dough!
